“RITES OF SPRING” DINNER
BOURBON ST. CAFE
SATURDAY MARCH 20TH
6:00 P.M. COCKTAILS
7:00 P.M. DINNER

While every one else is recovering from Mardi Gras overindulgence, the Jaguar Club will be celebrating the “Rites of Spring”. Yes, March 20th is the spring equinox and a great reason for a party and why not? Our early ancestors always celebrated the arrival of spring with a rollicking good party so we are justified in carrying on the tradition.

We will gather at the Bourbon St. Cafe, 8246 S. Lewis in Tulsa. (that is the Plaza Shopping Center at the corner of 81st and Lewis Ave.) at 6:00 p.m. for cocktails and socializing and dinner will be at 7:00 p.m.

To make the evening fun, the entire board of Directors is working on coming up with entertaining facts, questions and trivia about celebrating the “rites of spring”. Since we are a Jaguar club, we will recognize the Jaguar Club of New Orleans as the “Rites of Spring Concours” club as they will host the first show of 2004 on March 20th. Now this expands our entertainment to include New Orleans, the Jaguar Club of New Orleans, Louisiana, Jaguars in Louisiana and anything else that might be even remotely related.

We will be ordering from Bourbon Streets regular menu so there will be a wide variety of choices and price range and something to suit everyone. Since we will be using their private dinning room we must have reservations from YOU! Call Warren and Carroll Werling at (918) 495-3578 and tell them how many will be in your party.

The only excuse that will be accepted for not attending this dinner and party is you are attending the first Concours of the season in New Orleans. Otherwise, call Warren and Carroll today.

BREAKFAST AT THE SHERATON
SATURDAY, MARCH 6TH

Our monthly informal breakfast meeting starts at 9:00 a.m. at the Sheraton on 21st at Garnett. The coffee is always hot and waiting and the buffet is great. Join your fellow club members for some conversation and good food on Saturday morning.

WELCOME NEW MEMBER

New member S. Drechsler, has left us with a bit of a mystery. There was no clue on the application if this is Mr. Mrs. or MS but, we do know that our newest member owns a 1976 XJ6C, one of the more rare models of modern era Jaguars. We are delighted to welcome this person of obvious good taste to our club and look forward to seeing the XJ6C and meeting the owner.

THE “NO JAGUAR LEFT BEHIND” TEXAS DOUBLE RALLY  By – Linda Young

If you thought about going to Texas to participate in this rally, but then didn’t; it is my intention to make you feel really sorry you stayed home. You missed a really great weekend for several reasons:

1. The weather was PERFECT.
2. The rally from Addison to Tyler was not difficult, no one got lost.
3. The benefit car show in Tyler was terrific and it was right across the street from the Tyler Rose Museum for those of us (me) that were sick of looking at cars.
4. Billy Hibbs and his lovely wife Tisa went all out to make us welcome at their home, feeding us great Mexican food and of ourse, Margaritas.
5. Billy gave us a tour of HIS garage and the infamous “Company Car”. (sorry, you will have to ask!)
6. Sunday, the weather was PERFECT!
7. Steve Averill showed us how to run a rally on an almost totally straight course from Tyler to Lake Texoma.
8. We learned a tremendous amount about the art of “Rally” and we intend to pass it on to our club members, soon.
9. We had the Red X up over 90 on those great Texas straight-aways and did not get a speeding ticket.
10. WE ARE STILL MARRIED!

Yes, it is true, a rally can be fun and husbands and wives can do this together and not stress the marriage to the breaking point. Steve Averill did a great job of setting up a rally that was simple to follow but did require some thinking where speeds and times were concerned.

We came in dead last on Saturday (the Stray Cat award) but we had a sharp learning curve and did much better on Sunday, coming in 2nd. Most important, we learned there are several ways to lay out and calculate a rally and Steve set the second day up so the type of calculations used were totally different from Saturday.

We now know that rallies can be a lot of fun and do not require a large amount of manpower to put on. Scott and Stan Lackey will be working on getting a rally school going later in the year so our club members can learn how this is done. You like to drive your Jaguar? Here is one more way we will get the Cat on the road. It is high time that someone from the South Central region wins the Fred Horner Sportsman award and by adding rallies to our list of JCNA events we can make it possible.

JCTI COMING EVENTS

The “NO EXCUSES EVENT CALENDAR” is on page 3 of this newsletter. The members who attended the planning meeting on Feb 15th have done a really good job of mapping out a year’s worth of fun for the club so to avoid missing anything, take the page and hang it on the refrigerator door or use it to enter all the dates in your PDA or mark that big wall calendar or what ever it is you do to keep track of your life.

The abbreviated “Coming Events Calendar” will continue to appear on the last page of the newsletter, but is frequently shortened to the current month or two due to space requirements on that page. To avoid over scheduling or just plain forgetting an important club event. take advantage of this calendar and then there are “No Excuses!”.

INTRODUCING THE GAME “WHERE’S THE JAGUAR”

We all have heard of “Where’s Waldo” but how about a new game of “Where’s the Jaguar?” This game concept was introduced at the February 15th planning meeting buy Lester Neidell. The Alfa club has done this for several years and the members seem to enjoy it so we thought we would give it a try.

On page of this newsletter you will find a list of 16 notable sites of interest in the Oklahoma, Arkansas area. You choose at least 8 of those places and sometime between now and the Installation Dinner for 2005 you must drive there and take a picture of your car at the site. Yes, you and your family members can be in the picture. The important thing is the car must be in the picture.

Write your name on the back of the picture and save it. You must have at least 8 pictures to be eligible for the prize. At the Installation Dinner we will put all of the pictures in a box and a winner will be drawn. To increase your chances of winning you can go to more than 8 places, take the picture and add it to your collection. They will all go in the drawing.

This game is open to all members of the club. This includes the Daimler division, the Bentley division and the Armored division. If your Jaguar is not operable at the moment, we will accept your daily driver, it just has to be the same vehicle in every picture. Get your self a map, put film in the camera and set out to explore. You can enjoy driving your car, see some interesting places, learn a little about the history of our part of the country, and maybe win a prize.

WHERE’S THE JAGUAR?

In the interest of driving our Jaguars every chance we get and learning a bit about the state we live in, we have devised a year long game for all members of the club.  For full disclosure here, we will have to admit that we stole the idea from the local Alfa Romeo club.  They had a good time with it so we thought we would too.

Here is how the game works: below is a list of 16 places of historic interest in and around the Oklahoma and Eastern Arkansas and Missouri area.  You drive your Jaguar to any EIGHT of the places on the list and take a picture of your Jaguar in front of the sign, historical marker, building or other item that identifies the site.  Once you have your eight pictures, write your name on the back of the pictures and bring them to the installation dinner in January.  All of the pictures will be put into a box and a grand prize winner will be drawn.

Eligibility: Participants must be members of JCTI.  The game is open to all “divisions” of the club.  The Jaguar division, the Daimler division, the Bentley division and the Armored division.  If your Jaguar is currently not operable you can use the family daily driver and be in the “Generic Division”.  The only rule is; it must be the SAME VEHICLE in every picture.  Yes, you and your family can be in the pictures.

BONUS PICTURES: To increase your chances of winning the grand prize, go to more than the required 8 places and take the picture.  These extra pictures will also go into the drawing.  The more places you see, the better your chances of winning.

Here is the list of places.  We did not give you exact street address nor are they in any particular order, as finding some of them is half the fun.  Remember these are interesting places so find out all you can about them while you are there.

Be ready to hit the road!  Keep this page in your car glove box with your maps. Take those pictures!  Let the Editor know about any adventures you have while finding your destination. We will print as many as possible in the “Cat Tale”.  Good Luck!
